Classes & Walkabouts may be held outdoors and are informal—please dress comfortably. Classes free unless noted otherwise.

 We’re trying some new things this year. We hope you’ll join us!

In place of our usual once-a-week classes, we are offering some full fledged classes, but also something new we’re calling a walkabout...

Classes
will be approximately one hour in length and start at a new, earlier time; 10:00am,. Hopefully, this will get you informed, prepared, inspired and out working in your own landscape sooner in the day.
Classes begin at the Gift Shop.

Walkabouts
will be a little shorter, are designed to focus on a particular plant and the many wonderful
varieties available at the nursery as well as care and requirements.

Herbal Workshops
Also new this year is a series of workshops presented by Alana Haley of Roots and Wings Herbs. Workshops are held at Pine Hill Nursery in Kewadin on Saturdays from 1:00 to 3:00 for a fee of $15.  Click here for more info.
 

Watercolor Painting  
Local artist Mary Gunzviller will be leading plein air painting sessions Wednesdays July 2nd, 9th and 16th from 9:30am to noon at Pine Hill Nursery in Kewadin for a fee of $30.

Yoga for Gardeners
Led by Faun Rubert . Faun will lead participants in gentle exercises designed to teach gardeners how to avoid strain and injury. Fee and length and dates TBD.

Not content with your container plantings? We’ll show you how to spice things up! We’ll acquaint you with some plants you may not have considered, present new varieties and introduce unbeatable color and texture combinations; all the information you need to have containers with maximum impact this season.

Rousing Rhododendron Walkabout

Most people know that Rhododendrons like acidic soil, but what else do you know about them? Join us for a walkabout to see the many varieties available at the Nursery and learn about what recommends each one and how to care for it. You’ll find the perfect Rhodie for your landscape.

What to do with Herbs Class

What’s not to like about herbs? They are easy to grow, good looking, taste delicious and are dead useful. But do you know what to do with all those herbs you grow? Join us for this class that will prepare you for your herbal harvest. You’ll leave knowing exactly what to do with your herbal bounty this year. Presented by Alana Haley of Roots & Wings Herbs.

Presented by local expert Tony Weitz TBD enter information from Sandy in this space regarding his qualifications and what the class will include. From a small still water garden to a large pond you will leave with the knowledge you need to grow your own water garden.

Who doesn’t love a hydrangea? Did you know there are over 600 named cultivars of Hydrangea Macrophilla alone? Join us for this walkabout that explores the many varieties offered
by the nursery, some tried and true, some new and worth a look.

Crazy for Coneflower Walkabout

Two long-lasting, long-season interest perennials are featured on this walkabout. We’ll explore the varieties available of these two garden workhorses. There have been many new and interesting introductions in the past few years that deserve a space in your garden.

Lakescaping Class

Care of our local lakes and watersheds are very important to us at Pine Hill. If you live on or near the water, you’ll want to attend this class which explores planting on the water designed to maintain the health of our water systems. Presented by Heidi Lang, of the Antrim County Conservation District.

Hosta and Coral Bells Walkabout

Hostas have long been a mainstay in shady
gardens, while coral bells may not be as widely used. Both of these perennials have a multitude of varieties focusing on foliage texture and color that deserve a closer look and a prime place in your landscape.

Graceful Grasses Walkabout

Grasses are becoming indispensable in the
landscape as low-maintenance and drought
tolerant gardens are becoming more prevalent and desirable. They provide long-season interest and graceful form in the landscape. Join us for this walkabout led by Richard Name? from Hortec a premier supplier of quality grasses and groundcovers.

Dividing Perennials Class

Join us for this perennial favorite on dividing
perennials! Learn how to divide perennials to control the space a plant needs, to rejuvenate or just to create more plants. This hands-on workshop will give you a chance to try it yourself! (We’ll show you how first!)
